The Son (Turkish: Oğul) is a 2011 Turkish drama film,
written and directed by Atilla Cengiz, starring Rıza Akın and Enes Atış as
respectively a Kurdish villager whose son is fighting in the mountains and a
young man who journeys east to meet his beloved. The film, which went on
nationwide general release across Turkey on October 14, 2011, premiered at
the 35th Montreal World Film Festival August (18-28, 2011) and was screened
in competition at the 30th International Istanbul Film Festival (April 2 to
