Synopsis

An outstanding, powerful and atmospheric first feature from writerdirector Atilla Cengiz. Soner, a naive 18-year-old, leaves his hometown on the Black Sea coast for the first time to see his girlfriend but the journey becomes a dangerous adventure as his path crosses with that of Musa, a Kurdish villager whose son is a guerrilla fighter in the mountains of southeastern Turkey. But what begins as a road movie becomes a powerful depiction of the tragedy of conflict. As a tale of two sons becomes a tale of two fathers that is climaxed by a moving, memorable meeting between the two. One from the heart.

Note on Director
Director and writer Atilla Cengiz’s ‘Oğul’ (The Son) tackles war in southeastern Turkey through two fathers’ tragedy. While the story feels half-baked at times, the film reflects the grim atmosphere of war. Sunday, October 16, 2011
